Position Summary:
Abernathy Elementary is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Dyslexia Teacher to support students identified with dyslexia and related reading difficulties. The ideal candidate will provide targeted, evidence-based instruction aligned with state requirements while collaborating closely with classroom teachers, intervention staff, and families to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, explicit, and systematic dyslexia intervention using an approved program (e.g., Take Flight or similar).
- Deliver instruction in small group settings based on student needs and data.
- Monitor student progress regularly and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with district and state guidelines.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support instructional strategies and accommodations for students with dyslexia.
- Participate in ARD, Section 504, and RtI meetings as needed.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and strategies for support at home.
- Stay current with best practices and legal requirements related to dyslexia instruction.
- Maintain a positive, structured learning environment that supports student confidence and growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Valid Texas teaching certification.
- Dyslexia certification.
- Knowledge of dyslexia laws, screening processes, and intervention programs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) or Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT).
- Experience with structured literacy programs.
Working Conditions:
